New Life Travel – Inspiring Read of the Month

“Your personal growth depends on breaking out of this reality, that’s why I propose we let go of our goals and start unleashing our dreams.”
- Brandon James

He said some seriously deep stuff in his last post like: “The thing that we don’t get is that the word responsible translates to “response able”, or the ability to respond to events and circumstances. Building a life of stability and safety is making it so we never need to respond to anything.” I expect that he’s going to be one of the thought leaders of Gen-Y.

Justin Wright – How to Become a Digital Nomad

(While waiting on Youtube…I posted to Vimeo)

(Should have known to use Vimeo after four YouTube fails.)

I just noticed that I have been adding little to no commentary on some of these video so if you don’t have twenty minutes to learn how Justin Wright made the transition from wage slave to digital nomad and entrepreneur, here are the highlights and summary of the main points.

Highlights:

  • Justin’s Story     [0:12]
  • What do you use your Vibram Five Finger Shoes for?     [3:10]
  • Why minimalism?     [4:29]

  • Advice for the aspiring digital nomad     [11:38]
  • Future Plans: Bloghelp.org & Justin’s book Coming Soon! [15:23]

Justin’s Advice:

  • Decide what you really want to do with your life.
  • List the obstacles.
  • Stay at your job while you conquer the obstacles one at a time.
  • Wait until you have replaced your working income through other means.
  •

I should note that Justin and another entrepreneur I recently interviewed both had skills for the new economy. Justin is the expert on WordPress and is dangerously knowledgeable about SEO. Colin (interview to come), is an expert at personal branding and web design and graphic design. I study internet marketing and copywriting and I know a little bit about SEO, but I when I reach expert status in these areas I will be able to live where I want and do what I want.

What do you love or what have you decided to be the expert on?

Justin Wright is the founder of ZoopMedia, a company devoted to all things WordPress. He runs a digital nomad blog called Life of Justin and offers a variety of paid WordPress services.  He also has free WordPress tutorials available to help those just starting out. His mission is to live a life of minimalism, adventure, and to help others do the same.

Scott Stratten Speaks on The Rules of Engagement

I’m sure you all have heard of the “party principle” when it comes to social networking. Well I’ve heard many theories on how to market and how make money on the Web, but the only one that leaves you feeling good at the end of the day is Scott Stratten’s “don’t market to people the way you wouldn’t want to be marketed to.”

He has over 48,000 followers on Twitter (@unmarketing) and he didn’t use some kind of cheap software that automatically follows people with somewhat similar bios or tweets. He did the work organically and people love him for it.

One odd thing about Scott is he describes himself as grumpy, and I guess he does come across a bit irritated and sarcastic at times, but his message is real. He really wants businesses to rethink blasting people with advertisements 24/7 and start building relationships. I consider not just a poignant writer, but a great mentor.

Seriously, after you watch the video check out his blog. His writing really is masterful and his tips are revolutionary.

Scott H. Young Productivy Guru and ProBlogger

I’m calling him a productivity guru because he’s written like four books: Think Outside the Cubicle, Learn More Study Less, How to Change a Habit, and The Little Book of Productivity

But, I think he’d prefer to be called the cooler term life hacker.

So, it was a little difficult to get a hold of Scott because he’s busy building his business and such, and while I promised to be short as you can see I picked his brain for over a half hour. But, I figured that knowledgeable people really do enjoy sharing their knowledge so…

Tweet Scott a message on what you thought: @ScottHYoung

How Quickly to Lose Weight

weight-loss-img.

Today was an exciting morning for me. I’ve been 125 lbs. for the about a year or so and I got there from 150 lbs. which I ballooned to one summer in high school. Forgetting the summer, I was a cross-country and track runner during the school year and stayed somewhere around 127 lbs. while in season.

Now, I had some really unhealthy eating habits when I was in high school. I would rarely eat breakfast and I would skip lunch on most days to avoid puking in practice. All that to say that I eat now more than ever and enjoy it. In 2007, I was in college; I was about 138 lbs., and I was a little insecure because during a speech class a skinny-mini poked fun at my love handles when I wore an exercise top for a speech I was doing.

After that day I started looking around for what I could do to “get back down to my high school weight”. The more I read, the more I found out that simply cutting your portions in half could aid weight loss. So, I tried it. Beats not eating, right? It was this one change that caused me to drop to 125 lbs. and stay there.

In 2008, I realized I had a problem. My sister had bought me a body fat monitor scale for my birthday. So, I realized soon that although my weight was down my body fat was high. I had done many ridiculous diets like the juice diet, the soup diet, the vegan diet, and the eat once a day diet, so I knew that these diets were “MAKING ME FAT!” Diets without adequate protein will cause your body to eat your muscles so you get fatter although you lost weight.

At the end of 2009 I got a little cardio machine and started to do about 10 minutes of cardio a day to keep my energy levels up and tone my calves. I also started avoiding eating too many complex carbs and sugars. My goal now is to get to 20% body fat (that’s low for a woman, not a man). I’m at 21%, but here’s the exciting part; before I started eating less rice and potatoes I was at 26% body fat. That was only a month ago.

Confession: I wasn’t exercising much at all to lose weight, don’t like it that much.

So This is What Worked for Me:

1) Cut Meals in Half

2) Don’t Eat White Things

Have to give credit to Tim Ferriss for giving some great 4-Hour Body tips in his blog about losing weight because although I’ve never been overweight reading his posts really helped me get “fat loss” not weight loss down.
